Ski Equipment
For several years we’ve been touting the benefits of shaped or super side-cut skis and many of you have been listening. Now you’re realizing the benefits of skis that turn easier, edge better and are more versatile than ever.

What's new for 2010 you ask? How about skis that will let you ski shorter than ever? There are now several skis on the market that will let you ski pretty much as short as you want.

The trend started with short slalom skis. You may have noticed in the last Olympics, the slalom racers were all skiing on skis much shorter than them. Usually around a 165cm ski is all that is needed for slalom racers. 180cm is all that most giant slalom racers are using.

The beauty of today's skis is the fact that recreational skiers don't need to ski on as long of a ski, BUT, they still get the same stability out of a 160 or 165cm ski that we used to need to ski on a pair of 210's. With a wider platform under foot, and all that side cut the new skis have, most 165cm skis have the same surface area as a 190cm ski of the not so distant past.

Come in and let our staff help you choose the perfect ski for your needs.

Which are you? The beauty of today’s skis is that, but for a few exceptions, you can be many of the above on the same ski!

But enough about skis. There’s something we really need to discuss. When was the last time you replaced your boots? For too many it was back before shaped skis were even born. Before the advent of the cap ski and while Reagan was in the White House. Many of you have ski technology born in the mid ninety’s and boots that go back to the 80’s. Your skis are a home entertainment center complete with a plasma flat screen TV, a DVD player, 8 disc CD and surround sound and your boots are the on and off only remote control.

Boots have changed and it’s all for the better. They’re easier to get on and off, warmer and more comfortable. And as far as the fit! Imagine slipping your foot into a nearly exact mold of your foot. As the boot closes you feel even, snug pressure that makes you feel like any movement of your foot would go directly into the ski. Now, close the buckles and hang out for a while. It’s only going to get better. Manufacturers have learned how to make plastics more pliable and stronger than ever.

What about women's boots? There have been vast improvements in this category of boots in the last 10 years. Back in the eighty’s women’s boots were downsized men’s boots. Now we know that women generally have narrower heels, wider forefeet and higher insteps. When you tightened your boots enough to hold your heel, you cut the circulation off from your instep. Women have proportionally larger calves, lower calves and shorter legs. Your calve is in the boots and your old boots probably don’t make allowances for this. All this is compounded by the fact that Women tend to have poorer circulation to the extremities. Does this describe you? Get in here and try on some boots. What do you have to lose? There’s no commission here at Ski Haus so use us.

Our collection for 2010 really excites us. We have great new models from Tecnica, from the totally redone Dragon series of boots to the wide, plush Pheonix models; Tecnica makes different fits for different feet. Salomon’s boot line includes the new custom shell boots.  We have four models that the shell molds right to your foot. Finally, Dalbello comes back with more Truefit liners and their usual great values. They even have new boots with fully customizable Intuition liners. They are the perfect answer for those of you with fit problems. Atomic has a new line of Hawks boots that actually allow the sole of the boot to flex along with your skis to give you better edge pressure through the entire turn.

While we’re very excited about the 2009 model year boots, ask your boot fitter to look for something from last year. If you find a boot that fits you’ll save between 30 to 50%. And at Ski Haus we guarantee the fit of every boot we sell in season in the recommended size.
